Making your own window sash is a craft where precision, material knowledge, and form converge. During this course at Nääs, you will learn the entire process – from the initial step to the finished sash.
The course is aimed at those who already have some experience in window restoration and wish to deepen their knowledge. During the days, you will work hands-on with milling sash profiles, joining timber, and making glazing bars with cross joints. You will also gain knowledge about timber selection and wood handling, working with both hand tools and power tools.
With guidance, you will carry out the work step by step and make your own window sash – typically a smaller rectangular sash with cross glazing bars, but with the possibility to customize it to your needs.
The course alternates between practical work and theory, and is adapted to the group’s experience. You will work independently with the support of the course leader throughout the process.
Course leader: Manne Swedberg – cabinetmaker, building preservationist, and a very experienced course leader with strong ties to Nääs, where he himself once trained in carpentry.
What to bring:
Windows to work with, for example, a started window sash or measurements for making a new one. Work clothes/durable clothes, sturdy shoes, and preferably gloves. A notebook and camera can be useful for documenting the steps. Don’t forget any glasses you may need for work and drawings.
Food & Accommodation:
During the weekend, welcome refreshments, coffee/tea, and a simple lunch in the form of a soup buffet served in Kaffestugan are included.
Overnight stay and evening meals are not included in the course setup. For those who wish, it is possible to book accommodation at Nääs.
