When putty and paint are not enough – that is where the true craftsmanship begins. During this course at Nääs, you will immerse yourself in window restoration with a focus on wood repair, and learn how even more severely damaged windows can be saved.
Using your own window sash as a starting point, you will work practically through the entire process: we will take the sash apart, replace damaged parts, and rebuild it. You will get to try tasks such as milling, sawing, gluing longitudinal joints, and adjusting sashes and hinges. Naturally, we also work with putty removal and other fundamental steps.
The course is practically oriented but interspersed with theory that provides an understanding of materials, construction, and methods. After the course, you will have the knowledge to independently carry out more advanced restoration of window sashes.
Course Leader: Peter Jarbring – window craftsman, architectural conservator, and building engineer with extensive experience in building conservation.
What to bring:
A window sash in need of restoration (available to borrow if needed), preferably your own tools, work clothes, and sturdy shoes. A notebook and camera can be useful for documenting the steps. Simple ear protection and safety glasses are available to borrow.
Food & Accommodation:
The weekend includes welcome refreshments, coffee/tea, and a simple lunch in the form of a soup buffet served in Kaffestugan.
However, overnight accommodation and an evening meal are not included in the course arrangement. For those who wish, it is possible to book accommodation at Nääs.
