Nääs is a historic handicraft and craft centre with a rich selection of courses in handicrafts, crafts, and building conservation. Here, tradition, knowledge, and creative joy meet in a living cultural environment.
But Nääs also encompasses a broader cultural life – with courses and activities in areas such as art, gardening, dance, and music. Together with our partners in the area, we create a large and varied course offering where both beginners and experienced participants can deepen their interests and discover something new.

As early as 1872, August Abrahamson and his nephew Otto Salomon founded a handicraft school at Nääs. Here, the internationally renowned Nääs Handicraft Teacher Seminary soon developed, where students and teachers from around the world travelled to deepen their understanding of handicraft pedagogy and craft knowledge.
During the decades around the turn of the 20th century, Nääs was an international meeting place for handicrafts and pedagogy. Here, people from many nations gathered around creativity, ideas, and education – and both men and women participated in the teaching, something that attracted considerable attention at the time.
To this day, the tradition lives on. Nääs remains a place where people gather to learn, create, and be inspired – through courses in handicrafts, building conservation, art crafts, and folk culture.
The course activities at Nääs take place in collaboration with several organisations in the area, including Handicrafts & Building Conservation, Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan in Lerum, and the Swedish Tourist Association (STF). Together, they contribute to a broad and vibrant course offering in handicrafts, crafts, building conservation, and other cultural forms.
During Midsummer week, Näässamfundet organises several courses in art, dance, singing, music, and writing at Nääs. The courses bring together participants from near and far and offer an inspiring week filled with learning, creative joy, and fellowship in the historic environment.

A few times a year, baking courses are held in the Baking Cottage at Nääs. In the traditional way, the Nääs cake is baked in the wood-fired stone oven in the Baking Cottage under the expert guidance of members of the Skallsjö-Nääs Handicraft Association. Registration is made via the course page at Handicrafts & Building Conservation.
Nääs today is one of Sweden’s largest listed buildings with an adjacent nature reserve, but also a large manor with a fantastic history. The castle stands as the crowning glory on its own peninsula, a landmark that towers over the area and tells the story of the site’s history.
