Nääs Slott is owned and managed by the August Abrahamson Foundation – a small, private charitable foundation with a major mission: to preserve, care for, and bring Nääs to life for the future.
The foundation was established through the will of August Abrahamson in 1891, with a clear vision: that Nääs should endure, develop, and remain a place for knowledge, craftsmanship, and education.
The mission includes managing one of Sweden’s largest listed building complexes.
This includes not only Nääs Slott, but a cohesive cultural-historical estate with some forty buildings. Management is carried out with great care – restoring with traditional methods and preserving the special expression and character of the cultural environment.
Nääs is a living cultural landscape with forests, agricultural land, parks, and natural environments.
This includes the Nääs Ekhagar nature reserve – one of Western Sweden’s most valuable oak landscapes. At Nääs, usage and preservation go hand in hand. The estate is managed as a modern operation with active forestry and long-term land management.
Developing Nääs as a destination is a central part of the foundation’s mission. Through guided tours, cultural events, courses, and activities throughout the year, Nääs is a place in constant motion – to be returned to, in rhythm with the seasons.
The estate is open to the public year-round, offering the opportunity to explore the castle park and nature reserve and experience the surroundings on your own terms.
Since its inception, education has been a fundamental part of Nääs. Today, this is achieved through courses and the dissemination of knowledge in crafts, handiwork, building conservation, and culture – where tradition and the contemporary meet.
Through the will, Nääs is bound to its mission and must be preserved for the future. As a private foundation without public core funding, visitors are a crucial part of this.
