At Nääs, there are fantastic walking paths whether you are walking with your dog, children, or friends. In the exhibition/castle shop (next to the castle), there is a map, and you can also download the map of the Nääs area here to see where the different locations are and what the buildings are called.
The entire area at Nääs is part of Natura 2000, which encompasses valuable natural areas within the EU, and its purpose is to stop the extinction of wild animals and plants and to prevent the destruction of their habitats. At Nääs, for example, you can find the rare Osmoderma eremita beetles.
Between Floda and Nääs lies the nature reserve Nääs Ekhagar with large areas of untouched nature and ancient oak pastures.
Special rules apply in nature reserves – read more here about what applies.

Nääs is located along the beautiful Gotaleden Trail, which was inaugurated in 2019 and runs between Kungsportsplatsen in Gothenburg and Lilla Torget in Alingsås. The route is just over 70 km and divided into nine stages. The hike offers a varied experience through forests, mountains, nature reserves, and cultural areas. Along the trail, you will also find cozy cafés, exciting restaurants, and some overnight accommodation options.
The trail was created through the initiative of Hans Svensson, who made the trail an enjoyable experience walk. The trail has been financed by the EU program Leader Göteborgs Insjörike. Other participants in the project are the municipalities of Gothenburg, Partille, Lerum, and Alingsås, as well as Turistrådet Västsverige and Västkuststiftelsen.
The trail is bidirectional, and you can easily reach the different stages from commuter train stations along the route. Gotaleden is an enjoyable hiking trail where you can have refreshments, eat, and stay comfortably in several places, as well as experience attractions. The trail passes through some smaller towns but mainly goes through forest and nature. Along the trails, there are simple campsites and shelters.
Gotaleden is marked with blue trail markers on trees or posts.
Please download the Gotaleden app for a map and an even better experience.
Stage 6 between Floda and Tollered passes through, among other places, the Nääs Ekhagar nature reserve and across the Nääs area, passes the beautiful historic buildings at Nääs, and winds along the lake past Nääs Beach and large mysterious old hollow oaks. If you hike the entire Gotaleden, it may be convenient to stay overnight at Nääs Castle if you divide your hike into three days or if you simply want to add another dimension to your hike.
