Course

Figure Carving

What truly hides within a piece of wood? During this weekend course at Nääs, you will learn to use the knife to gradually bring out your own figures from logs and branches – with great freedom to find your own expression.

We begin with wood as a material and go through how to work safely and controlled with a carving knife. You will learn techniques for creating shapes, details, and textures, and how to structure your work as the figure takes shape. The focus is on free shaping rather than following predefined templates.

Through your own carving, you will discover a working method that suits you and your ideas. During the weekend, there will also be plenty of time for questions and discussions about tool care, surface treatment, choice and availability of wood, and other aspects related to figure carving.
