Welcome to the bakehouse at Nääs, where a living craft takes shape during the year’s baking days. Skallsjö-Nääs Hemslöjdsförening keeps the tradition alive and invites visitors to share in the atmosphere surrounding this classic bread baking.
The work begins early in the morning, as the large wood-fired oven is lit and prepared for the weekend’s baking. When the bakehouse opens to visitors, baking is already in full swing – you can see how the doughs are shaped, rolled out and baked in the hot oven.
The aroma of freshly baked bread soon spreads across Nääs. The popular Nääs cake is available for purchase in limited quantities – so be sure to come early.
Date: 15–16 August, 22–23 August, 29–30 August and 5–6 September.
Time: 11 AM–2 PM
Location: The bakehouse at Nääs
The baking days are part of a living ambition to preserve and pass on knowledge of traditional food craft. Skallsjö-Nääs Hemslöjdsförening welcomes new people who would like to get involved, and twice a year courses in baking in a wood-fired oven are also arranged for those who wish to explore the craft further.
A warm thank you to all the volunteers who, with knowledge and commitment, keep the bakehouse alive – a tradition to experience, smell and taste.
Nääs today is a national heritage building and a nature reserve, but also a large estate with a fantastic history.
