Course

Leatherwork

Curious about leather craftsmanship? During an inspiring weekend at Nääs, you will learn the basics of one of our oldest and most versatile materials. We will review the properties of leather, the differences between various types of leather and hides, and how the material has been used – then and now.

The course alternates theory with practical work where you will step-by-step try techniques such as saddle stitching, lacing, riveting, and surface treatment. You will begin with exercises and then move on to creating your own object – based on a template or your own idea.

Under the guidance of Christian Svensson, an experienced craftsman and handicraft consultant, you will gain both an understanding of the material and confidence in the techniques. After the course, you will have not only new knowledge but also one or more of your own creations to take home.
