Old windows can often be saved – and the reward is windows with a quality, beauty, and durability that are hard to find today. During this full-board course at Nääs, you will learn the basics of window renovation using classic techniques and materials.
The course alternates between theory and practice over 1.5 days. You will learn to assess the window’s age, condition, wood quality, and construction, identify common damage, and understand how it can be repaired. Practically, you will try tasks such as removing hardware, putty removal, de-glazing, scraping, sanding, pinning, puttying, glass cutting, and basic wood repair.
Course instructor:
Daniel Kindblad, an experienced window renovator who, together with his wife Marita, runs Färgmagasinet in Alingsås.
Accommodation & meals:
You will stay in a single room in the heritage buildings Vänhem or Björkenääs, decorated in 19th-century style. Beds are made and towels are provided. Two rooms share a bathroom. A parking permit is included.
Lunch is served at Nääs Kaffestuga. Breakfast and evening meals are prepared and cooked together by the participants.
What to bring:
Work clothes/sturdy clothing, preferably gloves and durable shoes. Feel free to bring your own window sash and any tools such as a putty knife, paint scraper, and a small hammer. Tools are available to borrow. A notepad and camera can be useful for documenting the steps.
