Course

Site-Adapted Kitchens – Theory and Practice

How does one create a kitchen that both functions in everyday life and simultaneously harmonizes with the building’s history? During this course at Nääs, you will gain knowledge and tools for planning and building site-adapted kitchens – with respect for older buildings and their character.

The course begins with a theoretical section where we take a journey through the kitchen’s evolution from the 1800s to the present day. We discuss stylistic ideals, function, materials, and what is important to consider when making changes in older environments. You will also have the opportunity to present your own ideas and receive feedback from the course leaders.

During Saturday and Sunday, the course transitions to practical work. Here you will work with materials and techniques for frames and doors, and create your own kitchen door – for example, a mirror door, beaded board door, or other model. You will take home both knowledge and your own handcrafted piece.
