Children’s Construction Sunday

Do you have someone at home who loves to create with their hands? Then Children’s Construction Sunday at Nääs is a perfect opportunity to try one of the most classic handicrafts.

On Sunday, June 14, Slöjd & Byggnadsvård invites children from approximately 7 years and up, accompanied by an adult, to a try-on whittling session. Under the guidance of David Nygård, participants will get to know the whittling knife and discover the joy of working with green wood.

Whittling in green wood is a special experience. The wood is soft and pliable, and after just a short while, it is possible to create simple shapes while learning the basics of the technique. Fresh wood and knives are available to borrow on-site – you do not need to bring anything yourself.

Practical information about the day

The whittling takes place in Långa salen (the Long Hall) in Slöjdseminariet, a historic craft hall at Nääs where generations of students have learned handicrafts since the late 19th century.

Feel free to take the opportunity to discover more of the area before or after the whittling. In Slöjd & Byggnadsvård’s exhibition ‘Älskade hus’ (Beloved Houses), children can follow a clever discovery tour and try picture bingo, where the goal is to find the right windows, roofs, and details among the houses at Nääs.
