As early as the late Bronze Age, the first people came to Nääs. Perhaps they carved cup marks in the rock at Vänhem to remember a unique place or a cherished memory. From the late 16th century, we can trace the owners of the estate. During the 17th century, Nääs became a manor. From the mid-18th century, it was owned by Jacob von Utfall, supercargo at the Swedish East India Company. In the early 19th century, Nääs was purchased by the merchant Peter Wilhelm Berg, who founded Nääs factories.
Between 1868 and 1898, Nääs was owned by the merchant August Abrahamson. He became the last private owner of Nääs. During his time, a handicraft seminary was founded at Nääs that became world-renowned. After Abrahamson passed away on 6 May 1898, the Nääs estate has been owned and managed by the private charitable foundation August Abrahamson’s Foundation.
Nääs today is a national heritage building and a nature reserve, but also a large estate with many activities. The castle stands as the crowning glory on its own headland, a landmark that towers over the region.
