Welcome to a creative weekend course at the Craft School, where you will sew your own shirt or dress – from the first cut to a finished garment. Over two days, tailor Alma Tegström will guide you through the entire process, with a focus on both technique and fit.
You can choose between three styles: a classic shirt, a shirt dress, or a blouse-collar dress. Patterns are available in sizes XS to XXXL. Together, you will go through each step, with deeper dives into details such as the collar, button placket and cuffs.
The course is suitable both for beginners and for those who have sewn before. Teaching is adapted to the participants’ level, but it is helpful if you have basic experience using a sewing machine.
The course leader is Alma Tegström, a trained tailor with a journeyman’s certificate in men’s tailoring and employed in the costume department at Gothenburg Opera. She also runs her own business, where she creates garments from upcycled textiles – and is happy to share tips with those who want to work with existing materials.
What to bring:
Your own sewing machine (a limited number are available to borrow), sewing supplies such as scissors, measuring tape, pins, thread and buttons, as well as fabric (approx. 3 metres of woven fabric, not jersey/knit). Materials can also be purchased on site to a limited extent.
The weekend includes welcome refreshments, coffee/tea, and a simple lunch in the form of a soup buffet served in Kaffestugan.
Food & Accommodation:
During the weekend, welcome refreshments, coffee/tea and a light lunch in the form of a soup buffet served in Kaffestugan are included.
However, overnight accommodation and an evening meal are not included in the course arrangement. If you wish, you can book accommodation at Nääs.
Do take the opportunity to discover more during your visit – join a castle tour, visit Slottsboden or explore the building conservation centre Slöjd & Byggnadsvård, all just a stone’s throw from the course venue.
