Welcome to an inspiring folk music course at Nääs – a place where folk music has resonated for generations. Here, we gather to play music together, in a living tradition where learning by ear, interplay, and the joy of playing are central.
This course is aimed at those who have been playing for a few years and wish to develop their musicianship in interaction with others. All instruments are welcome – fiddle, flute, accordion, guitar, vocals, and more.
We learn tunes by ear from Sweden, the rest of the Nordic countries, and perhaps even the British Isles. During the course, we will try playing in harmonies and explore how music grows when we listen to each other. An occasional folk song may also sneak in, and perhaps we will have the opportunity to make music together with participants from the vocal course.
The course is led by Annelie Westerlund, a well-known and appreciated figure in folk music and dance circles. With a steady hand and great dedication, she creates an inclusive and joyful learning environment. Kim Risberg also participates, contributing energy, rhythm, and often a fast, Finnish-inspired tune with his diatonic accordion.
The teaching alternates with a focus on fiddle and diatonic accordion, but in an open format where all participants find their place within the whole. The course is held in Slöjdseminariet at Nääs – a historic environment where craftsmanship, music, and learning meet.

The course is organized by the non-profit association Näässamfundet, which carries on and develops Nääs’ rich cultural traditions.
