Welcome to an atmospheric evening course in folk dance at the Playhouse at Nääs – a place where Midsummer traditions live on through movement, music, and community. Here you have the opportunity, regardless of previous dance experience, to step right into the world of Swedish folk dance.
During the week, we will learn dances that have long held a natural place at Nääs: singing games, Fransäs, Simon i Sälle, Spel-Ingris waltz, and several others. We will learn the folk dances that we perform during the Midsummer festivities, and here you have the opportunity to become part of the living cultural heritage! If you need a folk costume, we have a limited number available for rental. The program also includes regional dances and guild dances, all to live music.
The workshop is led by Annelie Westerlund, a well-known and respected figure in folk music and dance circles. With a steady hand, warmth, and great joy, she creates an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.
She is joined by musicians Cajsa Turesson, educated at the Academy of Music and active as a pianist, and Kim Risberg, who with his accordion gets the dance floor moving – often at a high tempo with Finnish influences.
