Castle Tour – Euphrosyne Leman Theme

Join a themed tour of the castle focusing on Euphrosyne Leman – opera singer, merchant’s wife, and philanthropist.

We get to know one of the lesser-known – but fascinating – figures in the history of Nääs: Euphrosyne was born in Stockholm in 1836 and enjoyed a brief but promising international career as an opera singer. In the late 1850s, she married the merchant August Abrahamson, who later purchased Nääs Castle in 1868.

After her marriage, she did not only become the mistress of the large home at Stora Nygatan 17 1/2 in Gothenburg – she also became involved in the city’s cultural life and in work for the poor. Euphrosyne was a woman with both heart and voice, but her life was tragically short. She passed away at the age of only 33.
